Benefits

Renewable Energy plays a vital role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, particularly Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and the most abundant form of Renewable Energy is Solar Energy. Without producing air pollutants or carbon dioxide, the most common solar system: Photovoltaic Panels (PV); takes energy from the sun that is then converted into electrical energy which then can be stored in batteries or thermal storage. From being environmentally friendly to reducing one’s electric bill, solar energy is expected to increase through 2050.

Incentives

RESIDENTIAL SOLAR

Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit – In December 2020, the Taxpayer Certainty and Disaster Tax Relief Act of 2020 was signed which extended the 26% tax incentive that was supposed to expire on December 31st, 2020. When a system is placed in service after 12/31/2019 and before 01/01/2023; taxpayers can claim a credit for their solar system if it serves a dwelling unit that is owned and used as a residence by the taxpayer in the United States.

Xcel Solar*Rewards Program – Xcel Energy offers a performance-based incentive for homes and businesses to help offset the cost of installing PV. The Solar*Rewards Program takes the extra energy your solar system produces, adds it to their grid, and offers the excess energy back in credits to your bill.

Minnesota Power SolarSense Rebate Program – Minnesota Power offers a similar performance-based incentive as Xcel in helping reduce the upfront costs of installing solar. SolarSense is only available for customers that install a solar electric photovoltaic (PV) system.
